How do you prepare?

 Luke 22:35-38

These are fascinating verses because they share what Jesus told them as He prepared His disciples for the charges that would be coming against Him.  It makes me ask "How do you prepare for the case when the tide of popularity changes?"  Everyone took care of His disciples when He was popular but now, when the tide changes who will watch out for them.

It seems that Jesus has mixed feelings about the sword.   He said "if you don’t have a sword, sell your cloak and buy one." Yet when they presented Him with two He said "That's enough" and to Peter He said “Put your sword back in its place,” Jesus said to him, “for all who draw the sword will die by the sword." Matthew 26:52  

Lord Jesus please help us to be agents of peace.  Show us how to solve problems with our words and loving actions and not with violence

Herod

  Luke 23:8-12 This passage says a lot about Herod.  First of all he wanted to see Jesus because he had heard about Him.  Herod was hoping Jesus would perform a miracle for him but Jesus wasn't going to be played.  Jesus didn't answer Herod's questions and His accusers seemed to be heard by Herod so Herod started to mock Jesus but Herod didn't find anything wrong with him.  Herod sent Him back to Pilate,,,and what is interesting is Herod and Pilate became friends that day. Lord Jesus, when satan sends the mockers help us to be wise and know when to speak and when not to speak.  Give us the courage to stand for what is right, in Your time and way. Amen.

Fringe folk

  Luke 9:49-50 Have you ever noticed some non-church goers are amazing people, doing amazing things?  Jesus says, if they're not against us they're for us.  Lord Jesus, help us not to discourage people who are on the fringes of the church.  Help us see how they are helping in Your Kingdom and celebrate their goodness.
