God takes away disgrace

Luke 1:25 Culturally not having children was a disgrace but God took Elizabeth's disgrace away.  What about us?  Is there something culturally that's a disgrace that God wants to take away from you?  May He work in and through each one of us.

Life at home

Luke 1:23-24 After the work “at church” had been done Zechariah went home. Sometimes God’s work is done at home during everyday activity. Don’t under estimate the fact that God is working 24/7 in all aspects of our lives. Then we have Elizabeth hidden away for 5 months. (Could it be that she didn't know she was pregnant because she no longer had her period so she was waiting for confirmation?) Sometimes we just need to hide away and ponder what God is doing. During this covid time don’t hesitate to hide away and ponder what God is doing,

Waiting and wondering prayer warriors

Luke 1:21-22 The folks who had been praying and worshipping God were left wondering why Zechariah was taking so long and when he did come out they realized something must have happened because he couldn't speak. As a prayer warrior don't forget to watch and wonder in order to see God at work.

Unbelief

Luke 1:18-20   Zechariah got the message but he wanted to be sure so he asked for proof.  The angel said "I am proof" but if you want more you won't be able to speak until he is born!   Isn't it reasonable to ask for proof?  We don't want to be mislead.  But then I think how does God best prevent the enemy from using this news against the plan?  He silenced the sharing of this story until it came to pass.  May God direct us as He shares with us so that His kingdom may come and His will may be done on earth as it is in heaven.

A job of the Spirit

Luke 1:17 I find this verse very fascinating because I always thought John was called to prepare people for Jesus but here it is saying how he is to prepare the people.  Through the spirit of Elijah he's to turn the hearts of parents to their children and the disobedient to the wisdom of what is right.  He has a very clear mission statement and it's initially not about God.  It's about relationships and wisdom.  Lord Jesus, please help our younger generation see the wisdom in doing the right thing and please be the healer of broken relationships between parents and children.  Thanks

The return of God's people

Luke 1:16 John will turn many people back to their God.  We live in a culture where many children have left the church. Lord Jesus, please bring someone along who will turn them back to You and then ultimately the church. Thanks

John the abstainer

Luke 1:14-15 It is interesting that the Holy Spirit would come upon him without his knowledge and consent. It is also interesting that he was called to be an abstainer before he was conceived. This shows that God’s calling on our live can start even before we were conceived. What has God called us to? Our we fulfilling our calling?

Fear

Luke 1:11-13 I find it interesting that the bringing of good news into Zechariah’s life produced fear.  Have you ever experienced fear at the beginning of something amazing? Maybe the birth of a new child. Maybe the birth of an answered prayer. Did that fear lead you to putting the brakes on or did that fear cause you to embrace the Lord more? May God's perfect love cast out all fear.

The power of a community of prayer warriors

Luke 1:10   Zechariah  was like many.  He was raised in the church and participated in the routines of the church but on this special day he had a team of prayer warriors praying.  We don't know what they were praying about except they were called worshipers  In other words, they had their hearts and minds focused on God when God was about to interrupt Zechariah with an earthly message.  That's our God at work through the hearts and minds of prayer warriors.

Chosen One

Luke 1:8-9 Have you ever been chosen to perform a certain task in church?  Something above and beyond your usual routine?  Watch for it.  God may have something extra special in stored for you as he did for  Zechariah.

Elizabeth and Zechariah

Luke 1:5-7 Elizabeth and Zechariah were both steeped in the history of the "church" and were blameless in the sight of the Lord because they carried out God's decrees; But they didn't have a child and this was a big deal in their culture.  Can you relate to Elizabeth and Zechariah?  Grown up in the church; 3rd, 4th generation church goer; doing what's expected in the church but something is missing?  May God fulfill your deepest wishes so that His Kingdom may come and His will may be done on earth as it is in heaven.

For theophilus, friend of God

Luke 1:1-4 Luke was written, after a great deal of research, for Theophilus, friend of God. This is research to help us discover more of the heart of God and so we will know with certainty the things we have been taught. Lord Jesus teach us the things concerning you.

Luke

It is of interested that Luke was a medical doctor. ( Colossians 4:14 )I wonder if he was witnessed to by Paul when Paul was sick.  Paul's stories certainly got his attention and as an educated researcher he wrote the good news in the book of Luke.
