Sabbath rules !

 Luke 14:1-6

There is a Jewish commandment to keep the Sabbath as holy and as a day of rest but what does that mean?  Jesus makes it clear that it's okay to heal on the sabbath; or rescue a child or ox.  In fact in another passage He makes it clear that the sabbath was made for man not man for the sabbath.

So what is the purposes of the Sabbath?  It's a time when we can take a break and rest and remember God.  Given that it's a Jewish law I think God knows we need the break for our own health; but if the rules become enslaving it no longer works.

Lord Jesus, please help us to enjoy the Sabbath rest that You have given to us and help us not to be enslaved by the rule.

Herod

  Luke 23:8-12 This passage says a lot about Herod.  First of all he wanted to see Jesus because he had heard about Him.  Herod was hoping Jesus would perform a miracle for him but Jesus wasn't going to be played.  Jesus didn't answer Herod's questions and His accusers seemed to be heard by Herod so Herod started to mock Jesus but Herod didn't find anything wrong with him.  Herod sent Him back to Pilate,,,and what is interesting is Herod and Pilate became friends that day. Lord Jesus, when satan sends the mockers help us to be wise and know when to speak and when not to speak.  Give us the courage to stand for what is right, in Your time and way. Amen.

Fringe folk

  Luke 9:49-50 Have you ever noticed some non-church goers are amazing people, doing amazing things?  Jesus says, if they're not against us they're for us.  Lord Jesus, help us not to discourage people who are on the fringes of the church.  Help us see how they are helping in Your Kingdom and celebrate their goodness.
